As students return to school and educators begin to plan for instruction that adequately challenges kids but also catches them up after a year of uneven pandemic learning, there's a valuable opportunity to reconsider—and ultimately retire—some of the stale literacy practices that research suggests aren't the best use of limited instructional time.
