Here information from the City of Fremantle about the Walyalup Civic Centre re-opening Friday week, December 10 and pushing back the official opening of Walyalup Koort by a week to December 12:
The Walyalup Civic Centre was closed because of a fire pump failure that occurred on Thursday 25 November.
We are working to progressively reopen the centre from next week. Our priority right now is to put in place measures that will enable us to reopen the ground floor from Monday 6 December with a 'pop up' library service and reading/computer room, the Wanjoo Lounge and customer service counter.
At this stage we are aiming for the library to be fully operational from Wednesday 8 December and all staff back in the building and business as usual by Friday 10 December.
The issue resulted from a valve failure in the fire pump plant room in the basement, which caused the fire pump room to flood. Water damage was contained to the fire pump room, the control panels and a few square metres of carpet tiles to the rear area of the library.
There is no other damage to the building or library areas. Books, computers, furniture and other equipment in the library are all fine.
We have pumped the water away and the subfloor areas are now dry. We are currently testing the electrical and IT systems and replacing the faulty valve. We are also repairing the two fire pumps in the plant room and their controls.
The Walyalup Koort Community Open Day planned for this Sunday will now be held on Sunday 12 December, which also coincides with the FOMO Alley Eats opening celebrations.
