The Coronavirus has given schools some daunting challenges, not least of which is the learning time lost due to illness and closed schools during the pandemic.
There is an urgent need to play catch up, but too often chances to improve the learning capacity of pupils become no more than the pursuit of further testing.
Testing does not improve pupil outcomes, more effective learning does.
Instead of trying to cover a redundant and constipated curriculum at an ever-accelerating pace, aim to make your pupils more effective independent and autonomous learners. That could be the great leap forward from the pandemic.
Sir Ken Robinson's words have never been more timely: 'It isn't that the school system is ineffective. It is very effective at doing the wrong thing.'
