A firm favourite of 60's icons Jackie O and Brigitte Bardot, the famous Mykonos Theoxenia has reopened with double its previous occupancy following an extensive transformation project
Restored to its former glory, the new and improved Mykonos Theoxenia has opened in the island's most sought after location on the coast of Kato Mili with 49 beautiful rooms.
The former stomping ground of 60's icons Jackie O and Brigitte Bardot, the extensive renovation represents an entirely new chapter for the property with a fully minimalist look. The hotel aims to capture classic Greek simplicity and sophistication, in a notion referred to locally as 'Greeknessence'.
The project sees stunning accommodation (37 new rooms, 8 deluxe suites and 4 signature suites with stunning views, private pools and a terrace), a spectacular pool overlooking the ocean and spacious grounds that are home to outdoor yoga classes, beautiful orange trees and spectacular viewpoints.
There's plenty to see outside its stone walls too - the hotel offers private cruises to the island's picturesque bays and guided tours to the neighbouring islands of Rineia and Delos. Adventurous guests can enjoy private snorkelling lessons and scuba-diving excursions to discover underwater ruins that date to the Ancient Greek Empire - before heading back for a night of lip-smacking Grecian goodness.
A New Era
A project first started in October 2021, Mykonos Theoxenia has undergone an extensive refurbishment inside and out - and has been completely transformed for the modern traveler with double the occupancy capacity. A building that broke all norms for being ahead of its time, the hotel has shed its skin with the help of VOIS architects and unveiled a contemporary new look that will break boundaries once more.
Embedded within a culturally protected domain, the key focus was maintaining the traditional Cycladic building techniques used when the building was first built in 1960. The hotel exterior is formed of the same stone that constitutes the existing sea walls. The hotel look has been stripped back to its original style from the 1960s, when it was built by architect Aris Konstantinidis, with added touches for contemporary comfort.
