Grassroots democracy is at work at Fremantle Council this evening, where an estimated 130 people tried to get into the small public gallery. That did not work, so many were forced to watch and listen from outside the chamber.
It is clear that there is a lot of passion in our community for the CAT bus and the Fremantle Markets.
Unfortunately I could only hear every third word when standing outside, so I left disappointed that I missed out.
All it needed was to reconfigure the oval room, so that the Elected Members sat along the length of the room at the back That would have created a lot more space for those community members who attended.
Why was the meeting not screened on the big screens outside the chamber?
I'll now have to wait to hear the official version, but can't report on what the public speakers and the Councillors had to say. Really disappointing and not good enough!
