#AceBreakingNews - A bus crashed and burst into flames killing at least 25 people in India's western state of Maharashtra in the early hours of Saturday, police and officials say.
Authorities say people were unable to escape after the bus caught on fire. (Reuters)none
Local police told Asian News International the bus was travelling from Nagpur to Pune about 1:35am.
Maharashtra's deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said 25 people were killed and eight were injured.
Police superintendent Sunil Kadasane said the bus crashed into a bridge, which caused the diesel tank to break and spill across the road.
"It caught fire and the vehicle tilted forward," he said.
"Eight people escaped (from the bus), somehow managing to save their lives but unfortunately 25 people have died and the deaths are more due to the fire than the accident because all the bodies are charred."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow on Twitter and said the government would pay support to each victim's family, amounting to 700,000 Indian rupees ($12,800).
"My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives," he said.
"May the injured recover soon. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to the affected."
