When you charge $ 28 for Eggs Bendict you really need to have a breakfast cook who knows how to make poached eggs. Disappointingly the eggs I got this morning at Il Cibo cafe were overcooked and hard boiled. There was far too much spinach, and the Hollandaise sauce was so thin that it did not add any flavour, while the two small slices of salmon looked grey.
I have been going to Il Cibo for years as the coffee there is consistently excellent, so this was a very disappointing experience.
On the upside; my mate Bob and I regularly have a few drinks at the Federal Hotel and often eat a pizza with our drinks. Mostly we order the prawn pizza, but on Friday we had the Capricciosa and that was excellent as well, and cost about the same as the awful Eggs Benny I had this morning.
One of the major challenges in the Freo hospitality industry is inconsistency. It should not matter who the barista or chef is, the coffee and food should always be good. Sadly that is often not the case.
