Julie runs a small business selling the Big Issue. You'll see her outside our local coffee shop from time to time.
It was a freezing cold day today when I saw her. I wanted to help her out by buying this week's issue.
"No. No. I think you bought this edition already. Come to me next week and I'll sell you the latest," she said.
It was cold. And Julie must have been standing there all day.
"I'm ok," she says. "Just my fingers and toes are a bit numb."
A magazine sold is another magazine sold. It would have meant she could have gone home sooner. But she looked after me this afternoon.
"You want something hot? I think they have soup in the cafe?" I ask.
She nods. Her smile of appreciation is just the best.
And the staff who hear our conversation shoves four extra slices of sourdough bread in the takeaway bag when I buy the soup.
It was a good day today.
