What is it with these guys who just can't accept that a breakaway country wants to be on its own? Could it be a case of unresolved separation anxiety?
Most dictators and tyrants do have deeply embedded issues that compel them to distort reality. The problem is that their delusion coupled with intelligence and charisma facilitates their duping and manipulating many people. Although it's not polite or politically correct to say so, many Germans supported Hitler during WW II.
In Canada, I've watched a similar dynamic spread like an infection over this land while dishonorable reprobates try to subvert our otherwise decent and fair system. A sense of learned helplessness creeps in and otherwise good people suddenly turn their back on the democratic principles that gave rise to our freedom and prosperity in the first place. After someone makes that choice in what the existentialists call bad faith, their soul darkens and they become as the classic tune goes, "just another brick in the wall."
The question is, what can we do about it before it's too late?
