People go on all the time about disrespectful and troublesome young people…but fail to realise that the answer is really very simple.
Circuses.
Most circuses are always understaffed. Tight-rope performers are always falling, elephant handlers are always getting stepped on, and any circus with more than one lion is always keen to talk about a ready supply of fresh meat.
In addition, the circus life is one of glamour and adventure. Everyone wants to run away, and as freight trains are a lot harder to catch these days, the big top presents itself as a viable alternative. And you never hear of anyone running away from the circus, either. See the paragraph above.
What better way of disposing of the difficult adolescents in your life? They will be whisked away when to tents come down and as it is generally years between circus visits, things will be quiet until they get back. They may be possessors of new skills; sword swallowing or carnival barking. The better looking ones can ride horses in spangled tights and the less-favoured can learn to clean animal cages.
No-one need feel unwanted.
