People of religious faith may have experienced lower levels of unhappiness and stress than secular people during the UK's Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020 and 2021, according to new University of Cambridge research.

Opinion
Studies like this are, in my view, somewhat suspect. Here are three points that come to mind:
- Sample size and the nature of the sample usually make generalization to the rest of the world problematic
- Certain individuals, religious or not, may not fit into the statistical pattern
- The results are correlational. If for a moment we accept the findings, we don't know if happier people tend to choose religion or if choosing religion makes us happier
That's why whenever I hear studies like this, say on the John Tesh radio show, I take them cum grano salis.
For me, religious practice is a complicated thing that I'm often walking toward or away from, depending on a variety of factors.
