No, it is not ". . . a kiss is but a kiss." (For those of you under 50, it is a song lyric . . . As Time Goes By by Dooley Wilson, featured in the movie Casablanca).
Allow me to explain.
By now you have learned of the fate of Alexei Navalny, a leader of the political opposition to Vladimir Putin in Russia. He was arrested and thrown in prison near Moscow for, I believe, criticizing the government, Putin's war in Ukraine, or any of the other verboten topics. Recently he was transferred to a prison in Siberia. And even though he appeared to be alive and well in a video the night previous, he showed up dead the next day.
Most people assume his execution was ordered by Vladimir Putin, as Putin's opponents often end up dead from radiation poisoning, trying to fly from hotel windows, their airplanes explode, etc. Putin faces no legal repercussions at all.
What it is that you must remember . . . is that Donald Trump has assumed/claimed he has the exact same powers and has announced plans to perform similar "punishments" of those who oppose him, if elected to a second term. He is claiming "immunity" from prosecution for any action taken while president, whether it relates to his job responsibilities or not. He has stated he could shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue and he'd get away with it; people would still vote for him. He has stated that he will weaponize the Department of Justice and use it to throttle his political opponents, pesky news people, etc. And he wants to set up "camps" for people with whom he doesn't approve.
Mr. Trump, Mafia Don that is, is a big fan of Vladimir Putin and wants to have the same powers Putin has to be recognized for him.
You must remember this . . . when it comes time to vote in November.
