This week'sprompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: "clump." Use it as a noun or a verb. Have fun!
One of the things I've learned in my decluttering process is to clump things together. That way, I know how many of a certain utensil, like spatulas, I have, and I get to ask, how many spatulas do I really need? This works with sweatshirts, art supplies, seashells, and the abundance of notepads and greeting cards I inherited from my parents. David has a lot of T shirts in the attic. They are mostly clumped together. Clumping is simple. It's organizing. Letting go is not always so easy.
Speaking of letting go, at the farm animal sanctuary, we are in the process of letting go of our founder Debbie who died last week. That does not mean forgetting. We will forever remember her smile, compassion, and how well she cared for the animals.
At the sanctuary, I prepare and serve lunch to the pigs and chickens on Thursdays. Then I visit with the old goats, Esther and Delilah. During my volunteer time, I scoop clumps of sheep poop and put them in the compost tubs. Goat poop comes in pellets and does not clump as well, but I usually scoop or sweep some of that, too. It's interesting that such similar animals have such different poop. I'm glad they make cat litter that clumps and makes scooping much easier.
But what I really wanted to get to about the sanctuary was what happened on Thursday. I had finished feeding the animals and hanging out with the goats and was getting ready to start cleaning up when I noticed one of the sheep, Jake, lying down with his head on the ground. I had never seen the sheep or goats laying like that before. Jake looked sad. I sat down in the Adirondak chair close to him and sang the lullaby from Secret Garden which I'll look for later. One of my favorite lines in the chorus goes,
"May there always be angels to watch over you...." .
So, I sang that to Jake and his sister Fifi who was nearby.
Then, I looked up in the sky and there was a rainbow over the sun! But it wasn't just a rainbow, it was a giant halo! I knew it was a sign from Debbie. She's been watching over the animals and the sanctuary. It was a sign of hope and encouragement so like Debbie.
I ran around taking pictures of the sunbow from different spots and lost track of time. I did notice that Jake had lifted his head, so I hoped he was feeling better. I wished I had laid down with him, but I had to go pick up Marley from doggie day care.
Later, I worried about Jake and messaged the evening crew to let me know how he was doing. I got back the sweetest video from one of the caretakers talking to Jake who was fine.
Jake
I'm trying to share the video below. If you are on Facebook or Instagram, you can look up Blueberry Lane Farm Animal Sanctuary.
Below are some of my photos of the sunbow. You can click each image to see the whole photo. In the last two photos, you might see something in the clouds. Let me know what you see. 🙂
Here's the lullaby, Secret Garden's "Sleepsong," that I sang for the sheep.
