Sudan army refinds state broadcaster from RSF.

Sudan (Khartoum) Members of the Sudanese army have been involved in a conflict with a paramilitary unit for control of the country since April 2023.

The Sudanese military claimed its soldiers are in control of the main offices of the state broadcasting cooperation after wresting it from the Rapid Support Forces.

The headquarters of the state radio and television in Omdurman are now under the control of the regular army whose soldiers have been battling RSF fighters since last year.

Omdurman is separated from the Sudanese capital Khartoum by a bridge straddling the River Nile.

Several footage have been circulating on social media of jubilant scenes of Sudanese army regulars inside the building of the state broadcaster which has been in the hands of the RSF shortly after the civil war began in April 2023.

The reported recapture of the building has been described by the army hierarchy as a significant victory in its struggle against the well-trained and equipped RSF which have proved themselves more than capable of holding their own against the Sudanese military.

It follows intense fighting in Khartoum in recent days despite calls by the UN for a Ramadan truce which would allow Muslims to fast without the trauma of conflict.

Thousands had died while millions have been internally and externally displaced, causing what aid agencies warned would be one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent decades.

Despite several attempts at a durable ceasefire, both the army loyal to General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the RSF led by his adversary Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo alias Hemedti have stuck to their guns.

Burhan and Hamdan who began as allies fell out after a dispute over Sudan's proposed political transition to democratic civilian rule with the backing of the international community.
