Yesterday I got an email from the library saying its services were more or less back online after a lengthy outage due to a cyber attack. Navigating to the TPL website my expectations were confirmed. Every user in the city was checking out the library website, which was almost broken from the sudden surge of happy patrons.
I missed the library terribly. When you're taxed through the nose like we are in Toronto - with our mayor planning an even bigger tax hike - it's nice to get some kind of a rebate through the TPL.
It's no secret that when poverty rises, so does crime. And violent crime, small business robberies, and home break-ins have reached alarming levels.
The city is a mess, our ridiculously congested roads are full of potholes, and quaint old neighborhoods are being demolished to make room for massive condo units. But isn't it nice that we can still escape into a world of fantasy with a free library card?
